I finally cut and donated my hair! It was getting wayy too long. Usually I know when I need to cut my hair when it starts getting stuck in car doors, so I decided if I am going to cut it, I might as well cut all of it off and donate it. This is the second or third time I’ve donated my hair to Locks of Love, and I think it is definitely worth it. I would rather my hair go to a child that needs it instead of sitting in a salon trash can. I cut about 13 inches off of it. My hair grows so fast, I just cut it about a month ago and now its already grown to my shoulders.

So last week I went to New York for the first time in my life during New York Fashion Week to present my clothing line at the Chictopia10 Social Influence Summit. It was amazing! I hate public speaking, but my presentation went well. Chictopia gave me 15 minutes to present my line however I wanted to, so I made a movie on my computer which included photos from my Spring 2010 and music. I was really nervous, there were 300 attendees and editors from Teen Vogue, Nylon, Vice, and WWD. I ended up designing a new purple dress inspired by spiderwebs for the event. I took my model Hilary (who modeled in my Spring 2010 Collection) to New York with me to model during my presentation. I am pretty sure she was more nervous then I was! We really enjoyed listening to all the speakers, but when it was my turn to present, we went downstairs to get ready and ran into like 13 gorgeous male models with amazing accents. I think they were from the UK. Also, one of them, I think his name was Charles, told me I looked great and showed me all his scars. It made me less nervous about presenting. The designer who had all the models totally one-upped my presentation because all I had was one model and a movie! Oh well! I still had fun! After the presentation Helen (from Chictopia) surprised me with roses! And they were in a wrapper that matched my Spring 2010 Collection. The conference could not have ended any better. OH WAIT EXCEPT FOR THE PART WHERE AN EDITOR FROM WWD INTERVIEWED ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so serious right now, I am not even making it up, she came up to me super quick after my presentation and interviewed me about my line. I’m not sure if she is going to publish the interview, but the fact that she was interested in my clothing line enough to interview me, made my life!!!
Also, WWD mentioned me in an article about the Chictopia10 conference, check it out!!!!!!!

Hay everyone, I am in New York! It is amazing, my plane just landed a few hours ago. This is my first official business trip. On Saturday I will be presenting my new line at Chictopia10 Social Influence Summit which is a conference put on by Chictopia. I am so excited and grateful that I got the opportunity to showcase at the conference. Last week I went to the Chictopia office and surprised Corinne and Helen with Cako cupcakes for giving me the opportunity to present at Chictopia10. I am pretty sure they loved the cupcakes, plus the Cako cupcakes did have a pretty big impact on inspiring my Spring 2010 collection (the lemon raspberry cupcake in particular).
I designed a cute new dress for the Chictopia10 conference, but I can’t decide if I want to wear it yet.
Here are some behind the scene photos from Spring Collection 2010!

My Spring Collection 2010 is finally here! I took a risk and designed the whole collection out of pink fabric. I love it, and I am so happy with how it all turned out. The shoes I used in the collection are hand painted canvas shoes I painted myself Basically the whole collection was inspired by the evolution of my personal style. Also inspiration came from my odd obsession with Amanda Palmer and The Dresden Dolls, cupcakes, bike riding hipsters in SF, heroin punks, and the list goes on.
I designed the collection in two segments. I like to call them ‘badass’ and ‘cupcake cute’. Looking at the collection you will see what I am talking about. Brandon Biggs and Caity Nascimento (my bff for life) photographed Spring 2010, Caity shot the ‘cupcake cute’ segment, and Brandon Biggs shot the ‘badass’ segment. If you knew both of them in real life you would expect that it would be the opposite, its kind of ironic I guess. My two favorites Hillary and Xi (pronounced ’she’ but don’t make jokes about it because she will get really mad…) modeled in the collection for me. They are super cute and I am so grateful they helped me out by modeling.
Check it out, I would love to hear feedback from everyone! Behind the scene photos coming soon!

So yesterday was the BEST day of my life…so far. I met Betsey Johnson!!!!!!!!!!!!! Betsey is my all time favorite designer and she is the one who inspired me to start my own line of clothing. She designs beautiful dresses that girls all over the world love and want to wear and as a designer myself, that is my number one goal. I really just want to design clothing that make women feel beautiful! Betsey is so amazing and I am so lucky that I got the chance to meet her!
Yesterday was my draping final at school and I finished it as quick as possible so I could go down the Betsey store so I could meet her. There were soo many girls there waiting in line for hours to meet her it was ridiculous! So when I finally got to say hi and take a picture I gave her my business card, and who knows, maybe she’ll check out the site! I hope she does because then my life would be complete!!!

Hay guys, I think there is a little confusion going on.
My name is Alyssa. You can call me Alyssa, or Bird. Preferably one or the other, but never both at the same time. ‘Bird’ was a nickname given to me by my grandmother (but she would say it in spanish) and it kind of just stuck. I just think its kind of weird (but cute!!) that all these articles I have been featured in lately keep referring to be as “Alyssa Bird”.
In other news,
Check out these links I’ve been featured in for the DNA event!

The DNA event on Friday was a lot of fun, I was soo excited when I noticed they taped the Daily Candy article with my picture on it in the window! So when I was waiting for a cab after the show I would point it out to random strangers that walked by. “Hey look, I’m in the window ”
Hey, you can’t blame me, it’s not everyday your picture is in the window at a gallery!
